I'd still have a problem with the front post though, if I cropped off the back right post. Then I'd just be stuck with some deadspace between the front right post and the edge of the frame. Then I'd be forced to crop even tighter, going all the way to the edge of the right front post, but then they'd be off center to the other side and I'd have that lone left front post hanging in the middle of nowhere, so, I'd be forced to crop at that post as well, which would chop off her elbow, fingers and a sliver of butt, which would leave me with that vertical support for the railing too close to the edge of the frame, which would make me have to crop at the vertical but then they'd be off center again and so I'd have to crop just as much off the woman on the right for balance. But that would leave me with a vertical image of a wide subject. So, as you see, I think we've no choice but to go with this crop. ;) LOL! Isn't it amazing how much thought has to go into all this and how just one little thing can cause sooo much trouble. But, this is a good discussion b/c it makes us verbalize the whys of what we do, which is always helpful. ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, thanks for the comments about my pictures:)

I wouldn't call this image 'lost'. Seems to me though that I might have cropped it so they are centered, and lose the framing on the right, others might disagree. I do think that you are right about the bottom of the image having a lot of interest, if you just look at the feet the one lady on the right looks like a little baby, compared to the others.

Love to chat about my images and tell you what I did. Let me know how you want to go about that. Chris

Chris, in addition to that bit of darkness, we have the fact that the people are off center and I would have preferred center for this composition, but I wanted to frame them with the posts. The bench isn't centered between the posts though, it's off to the left, so there went my center compostion. I couldn't move left or right either b/c I had to be centered behind them to avoid perspective distortion of the structure. So, you live, you compromise. ;) I do find that I too was being drawn to that corner, but I find that when I leave it I tend to meander right under the bench, to the legs and feet, which, for some reason, I personally find to be the most interesting area of the image. So, all is not lost. ;)

BTW, I'd like to chat with you about your mirror images and what processing you used. They're beautiful images. ~ Lonnit

Interesting picture. I find it "weighted" a little too strongly in the lower left (no pun intended), it makes the image seem off-balance to me, and tilts everything that direction, although they really aren't. This is interesting, cause it enforces the weight issue, but makes it harder for me to take in the whole image, as my eye is constantly pulled to the lower left corner. I think that corner is a little bit darker, which also causes this. I like the quality of that you have given the image with your processing. Chris

Thanks Roberta. This is actually just a roof, held up by posts. It continues to each side of thee women but I loved the way cropping at the edge of the rear posts really framed out the image and brings in an appreciation of the roof and boardwalk details. I'm glad you noticed the effort I put into framing and cropping this very carefully. ~ Lonnit

I agree about the story. We passed by again over an hour later and they were still there, but in a different order. Yes, I added the grain, and a bit of corner burning at the bottom, but you'd better get your monitor checked b/c you are seeing a monochrome as an oversaturation of colors! LOL! ;) ~ Lonnit
