I like the colors, the composition, and the shot! --Melanie (mlynn)

Unfortunately the perfect male hand model wasn't available for hire, so I had to settle for a middle-aged married man with short stubby fingers.
He is right-handed, so it's perfectly natural to be holding them in his right hand. No one wears their wedding ring on their right hand.

Great photo, but the fingers look unnatural for an adult. They are short and stubby, like a baby's fingers. Also, the way he's holding the flowers is a bit awkward. I wouldn't be holding the flowers like that; my hand would be wrapped around the flowers more, showing a bit more of the top of the hand. Also, it would have been nice to show the ring on his finger (if the subject was meant to be married). Roses would have been more appropriate too. Anyways, too much criticism from me. A great photo.

I am thinking just a few inches, a bit more of the hand (?), not the jeans:) Chris

Phil, I paid $15 for those flowers so he could say sorry to me ;-) and that was the best that Safeway had on offer!

Chris, when you say "pulled back" do you mean a wider angle with more in the frame? We did a heap of these, all differents compositions etc, and the tight crop worked best for me.
I didn't wanna go too far back cos he had old jeans on under that suit jacket.

Gayle, I wasn't saying hold it with two hands, just thinking the ring finger might have added to the image. The tie doesn't clash, I think the color works well, I think it is the sheen (?), the whitish areas at top middle, top right and bottom middle that distract me. If that is the way the tie is, then Iso is right:)

Did you try one that is pulled back a little more? Just curious. I like this image, good job. Chris

Phil - This is the last time I wore a suit.http://www.pbase.com/ctfchallenge/image/45445937 Check out the buttons and snug fit.

iso, when was the last time you wore a suit? Doing up all the buttons? No way!
Gayle - is this the best he could do? That's a pretty lame bunch of flowers to be saying sorry with!
Phil

I think Chris just doesn't like your hubby's taste in ties ;) Yes the colour and contrast looks much better now. I wonder why his bottom button isn't done up?
Gayle Knowles04-Sep-2005 22:36
Chris, we tried images with both hands holding the flowers....it looked fake and as my husband pointed out, men never carry flowers with both hands.
If he'd held them in the other hand, the image would view from right to left which looks altogether wrong.
Not sure what you mean about the tie, it's neutral colours don't clash and the alternative was a garish blue, purple and red combo that would definitely have clashed. Without tie didn't look right either.
Thanks for the comments.

Nice image. I am wondering if using the other hand, and a wedding band might give it a little more impact. Not that you have to be married to say that you are sorry? The other thing is the tie, something about it doesn't quite do it for me. I do like the image though. Chris

How is it now? Everything on the new monitor seems contrasty and saturated so it's taking a bit of getting used to. I've upped both contrast and saturation slightly.

This is particularly nice as its a set up shot, and that's not what you do, so full marks. Composition good with well chosen colours, but my own pet hate (and being very anal) about the little 35mm is the colour and contrast seem a little flat. Just needs a small boost without the skintones being affected. (Or is it your new monitor and you're not used to working on it yet?)

A single word:

Perfect!!!

Nice Gayle. Did your husband dress up just for the shot or did he do something wrong? theFly
