Great image, Larry. I have a pair of red-shouldered hawks living in the fields adjacent to my home. They are a real treat to watch on a regular basis. While delivering all the salient details, you also managed to capture that beautiful dappled light amongst the trees. A beautiful creature in an evocative environment is what wildlife photography is all about for me and you hit it right on. -Michael

Yet another San Diego photographer. Very nice shot. Birds of prey are fascinating sunjects.

Thanks for the comments. Doctah, your identification is correct. I changed the title to reflect this and pleased to learn about another hawk species in my area (San Diego, CA).

Nice capture, but I'm pretty sure it's a red shouldered hawk (buteo lineatus) as opposed to a red tailed hawk. The Doctah

Ohh, I love this. I like the way the splashes of light catch the beak and head of the bird and also the feet and talons. It's as if the sunlight is emphasizing the predatory tools of the raptor. And the blue and green background really adds to things by complimenting the reddish colors in the feathers. I also like the diagonal formed by the branch. What's not to like? Good shot.

Thanks, Vikas. Something happened to my response to you, so I retitled my image. Larry

Cool, I stand corrected. Very imposing bird.. Looks quite like the Shikra we have in India. Must be long lost cousins. :-)

Nice one Larry. Isn't that a Shikra? Cheers, Vikas.
