Shu, I really love this type of seaside harbor image. I like your composition very much and the details you've chosen to include. I personally don't see any oversharpening. All that being said, I'll weigh in on your selection of light treatment. I think you are right on the money to give a bit of glow to where you want to take the viewers eye, but it's a little too much for me. I like the effect, but would like to see it a little more subtle. All in all, it's still a most gratifying image and I thank you for the introduction to Bradley Wharf. -Michael

Very good, I like it, but I have to agree that the light spot does not look natural....

I don't think this is over-sharp. I agree tho' about the light. Its a great shot, but it looks a little unnatural with a light circle. It looks like it needs a directional source.

I quite like this image and I do like the added light. It makes sense that any added light would come from the same direction the natural light is coming from. IMHO this is a fine shot.

Shu - While I like the subject & composition of this shot, I don't care for the PS work. I guess the thing that bothers me most about it is where is the light source? The light just radiates from the edge of the building & spills onto one of the boats. Maybe it would look more natural if light was added from the upper right corner down towards the building. -- Jeannie (jburly)

Thank you all for your comments both pro and con! I'm really looking at all sides of the image. I fail to see that it is oversharpened, but then it could be my failing eyesight. (Scarey!) Shu

Shu, you asked so i'll have a go. The composition is not bad but I would have had a little less sky and more water feature with maybe a longer exposure to capture reflexions. What bothers me most about this image is the sharpness - it is way too much - a lot of people do it but forget the composition is the key, if it is soft then that is ok so long as it is well composed but if it has been oversharpened then it goes from being a picture to an over-processed picture. I hope you don't mind my comments and take them as they were meant.

I really didn't want it to look "normal." My vision often does not match that of others, but if it looks right to me and may not please others, that's ok too. But P L E A S E always give me your critiques! It's important to get different points of view and that's exactly why I joined the challenge. Thanks sooooo much!! Shu

I like this picture. It looks to me like a photo frame hanging on the wall with a spot light focused on it from the ceiling. It has all the right elements. -Cat

Andy, well llll my eyesight is not good and I must depend on all of your young eyes to catch these flaws. Much appreciated and I do see the problems now. I'm glad you like the image in spite of the defects. Question: would I be able to clone out the flaws? BTW, yes, the spot was in the upper right-hand side. Sloppy job, too. You have my admiration for your keen observation!

Signed: Too lazy to try again.......LOL Shu

Now this is a great image. I love the light. Having read about the spot, i am drawn to a rather messy top right corner. Could this be the result of cloning out the spot? The circular banding around the bright horizon is also rather evident and could be a processing artifact. Still a top shot.

You must've cloned out the spot before I got a chance to look. I guess I was a bit struck by the burn in the center too. Not that I don't like it, but maybe I'd spread the burn around a bit, particularly up and down to more of the vertical part of the building. But then it wouldn't have the same effect and you'd risk losing the sort of glow that is coming from behind the upper and right area behind the building. As usual, I'm torn in two directions. And this is supposed to be light and shadow, after all, and the way you've done it gives us both on the building at the same time.

OUT DAMN SPOT! The intent of the image is to "show off" Motif #1, the little red fishing shack on Bradley Wharf, Rockport, Mass., which is most famous for the many paintings and photographs done over the years. I have highlighted just the shack and immediate area to the right in order to emphasize its importance. Shu

I agree with the other posters. But you also have a dust spot in the uper right corner. Although I am a fan of vignetting, I think it works a little better when it is pushed more toward the corners. Lovely image though.

Wow, I like this...this does have a dream like flavor. Best Wishes, Traveller

Interesting Shu - looks like an artificial burn, but that's not your style, so I'm assuming this light is nature's design. ;) Nice! ~ Lonnit
