Ironically - Vikas's image of the beer (next in the gallery) would illustrate what I'm talking about - if he hadn't put those leaves in front of the glasses. ;-) -Ed Hahn

Hi dorys - yes - I'm talking about the distortion in perspective inherent in the use of wide angles. The rim of the glass looks about edge on to the camera, while the base is definitely being captured from an angle above the base. A longer lens (e.g. 85 mm or 100mm, backing away from the subject to get the same relative coverage in the frame) would result in less difference in perspective. Kinda like the same reason that wide angle/close shots of people look odd - the perspective falloff from the nose to the edges of the face are exaggerated. It's really a minor comment, for this image. -Ed Hahn

Hi Ed. Would you mind explaining what you mean? Are you talking about the perspective of the base compared to the lip?

In anycase, my focus was on the lighting aspect so I really didn't pay much attention to this particular detail. But you have given me something else to think about.

I think I like the B&W version too. (*) Would a longer focal length make the perspective shift between the base and the lip of the glasses less extreme? -Ed Hahn

I kind of find myself going toward this one. There's something about the simple tones to go along with the simple composition. A good match. And somehow the texture of the material they're sitting on works better in mono rather than in color, at least in my opinion.

You REALLY did well for your first run with PWL!

I like your color version much better! (It must be the red) LOL Shu

I like the color version more because the rose stands out in color version but here it is too subdued IMHO. Maybe with more light on rose the effect would be different

Simply Beautiful, excellent shot.
