A classic!
Canon DSLR Challenge02-May-2005 05:02
Thanks Ladies and Rob, I appreciate the comments. :)

And Cindy your description sounds like what you should be seeing; there is a hint of my right side showing at the armpit area and down to the bra. You can see the front edge of things but the fade to black a bit deeper into the image.

Cool lighting Lonnit. The arms going up and no head make me spend my time wondering what the heck you are doing rather than focusing on the nice red bra. FWIW I can see the belly button and the left outline of the body ) toward the top anyway) and that looks perfect. Cindy
Canon DSLR Challenge01-May-2005 03:58
Lonnit, this is outstanding work, I like the slightly graphic effect of the colors and light that you have achieved with light painting. It would be a interesting to see a tighter crop, or maybe more light towards the neck and arms. Your use of powerful red is very well done.It puts me in mind of me of Boris Vallego's work. The necklace is a small distraction, but I bet you have already thought about that. very well done

Phil, congrats on 'getting it' too. It's my other shots that went for the sexy story. This IS supposed to be all about the bra. Those who thought it hot were missing the point, with overactive testosterone. LOL! It's precisely what I intended it to be and I am thrilled that you an Olaf have seen it this way. Great validation for me!!! Thanks ~ Lonnit
Canon DSLR Challenge30-Apr-2005 21:55
OLAF! You hit the nail on the head! This shot IS about the bra! The challenge theme was RED hence the RED bra! The bra is the star of the shot!!! Thank you. :) ~ Lonnit
Guest 30-Apr-2005 20:33
No fair! There's at least 50% of us here who simply couldn't do a shot like this... :)
Um, sorry.
I was about to criticise Olaf for having no testosterone, but actually, now I look at it I can't help wondering how good this would have been with a more lacy number - a la Mrs Teapot.
I do love the lighting though - and I can't see a body line to the left. Mind you, I can't see a belly button either... (and I am calibrated, honest!)
Phil
Guest 30-Apr-2005 20:15
Just because it doesn't strike me as particularly sexy doesn't mean I don't think it is a nice photograph. I just wanted to share my interpretation and impression, OK?
Guest 30-Apr-2005 20:10
Lonnit, I've been thinking... This image does not strike me as particularly sexy. Why? Well, that's what got me thinking and I think the answer is that this is really a photograph of a bra - it could be an ad for Victoria's Secret or some brand name bras. It's not a catalog-style photo - the lighting sees to that, but I think some of your other shots are sexier. Also perhaps due to the way it is lit, with just a torso and no face, arms and legs, it almost looks like a mannequin doll in a window display. It's about the bra and the body is almost irrelevant here - at least that's how it strikes me...
Canon DSLR Challenge28-Apr-2005 20:13
It shouldn't be. It's very frustrating to do this delicate work of things being just visible or just beyond visibility when everyone has a difference in their monitor. When I did a similar thing in another challenge we used up 3 threads in the discussion of comparing our monitors! LOL! You may want to tweak your brightness controls to be sure you're in line with the rest of us. :) ~ Lonnit
Canon DSLR Challenge28-Apr-2005 09:25
Lonnit, it depends on the light falling on my monitor. My original post was at night. body line clearly visible. In day light it is not.

Andy

Pics left side body line is visible.

Hi Lonnit
Great lighting, and composition . Simple and sensous.
Nice interpretaion.

Canon DSLR Challenge28-Apr-2005 01:31
Picture's left side or model's left side? Picture's left side should have absolutely no visible body line. What is everyone else seeing? Time to put up a calibration bar here too? ~ Lonnit
Canon DSLR Challenge28-Apr-2005 00:18
You could be right abut the monitor. Been a while since it was calibrated. Anyway, all to say that the left side body line is visible and i don't think you want it visible. Just bare in mind that i really don't know what im talking about.

Canon DSLR Challenge27-Apr-2005 23:47
Thanks Andy. Flashlights are just fantastic. I love them. Darken the what? Was that a typo or an abbreviation I don't know? I'm wondering if your monitor is too bright b/c the body is completely undefined except the small part of rib area on the right side of the image. ~ Lonnit
Canon DSLR Challenge27-Apr-2005 21:11
A sensuously lit and posed shot. I love that you you used a flashlight for this. There is something oddly distracting abut the necklace. I would darken further the lhs of the shot and have the bodyline comletely undefined, at least below the bra. Please understand that this is what I would do and i'm not suggesting that you do it. You already have a stunning image.

Has anybody seen the movie Shallow Hal?
This is not what Lonnit’s body really looks like, you’re just imaging it.

I don’t think I could pull this one off in my underwear :)

Nice Lonnit!
Canon DSLR Challenge27-Apr-2005 16:54
LOL! Exercise used to be a biggie - I was into body building yrs ago, but that was pre-kids. I am amazed that even now with them in school, I just can't find the time to get to the gym. Too much time spent on the computer I guess! LOL! ~ Lonnit
Vikas Malhotra27-Apr-2005 16:52
WOW, very very nice Lonnit; great mood to the shot. :-)

Cheers. Vikas.

This challenge has gone brassiere mad.
Nice shot Lonnit. Glad to see it wasn't iso in a red Victoria's secret number!
Teapot.
Canon DSLR Challenge27-Apr-2005 00:48
Yes, Fly, you are correct and this time it was supposed to show! LOL!

Shu, do you have any old pix?

Yes Grant, I do believe it would be! LOL!

Lonnit
Guest 27-Apr-2005 00:47
Damn you lonnit, you've done it this time. I'm going to go to victoria's secret, buy a LARGE red women underwear and shoot my beer belly and hairy ass wearing the red underwear. Then I'll WIN BIG TIME. BUAHAHAHA!!

Lonnit-Your lighting setup was a nice lesson. (I'm sure you'll be glad to know that SOMEONE has seen artistic merit in this image!) .......i can remember when i once looked like that........blah.....blah......blah....!!!!! Shu
Guest 26-Apr-2005 19:48
"Balls" would be a great challenge theme...

Grant
Canon DSLR Challenge26-Apr-2005 16:59
Angela, I had to do something drastic once you showed up again! You did a helluva job shooting balls so I went the other way! LOL!
Didn't know the atmosphere had a name, but I was going for dark, moody, etc. ;)

Grant, the belly button being just visible was a look that I really liked in it as well. I'm glad you noticed it and appreciated it's importance.
The flashlight was on the dresser b/c I was busy holding
the camera and shooting into the mirror. I was lazy and didn't feel like setting up the tripod. LOL!

Thanks Shu!

Bleau, the sex card is often very helpful! LOL! There's a variety of positions on the back of the card as well! LOL! As for the lighting, I was trying out my
brand new cheapo portable camping light! $19.95 at Linen's & Things!! I got it b/c I thought it would be particularly good for doing the dating portraits for
the agency I'm shooting for. It's very bright, portable, and can holds a charge for 12 continuous hours of shooting. It's even got little legs on it so you can
set it down on a self-stand. I'm picking up a second one b/c I like it so much.

Ahem, one should not type as soon as they awake.

That should be "All THAT aside..."
Guest 26-Apr-2005 13:19
Well, damn, Lonnit. Way to blow us all away! This is excellent. I really like the chiaroscuro and atmosphere of this.

All taht aside, you know what my favorite thing is?? That your belly button is visible. I think that adds a LOT! :)
Guest 26-Apr-2005 12:57
Holding a flahlight in your hand, aimed at yourself?
Guest 26-Apr-2005 12:40
Damn, baby...I'll be right over.

You've outdone yourself! Shu

Oh Lonnit!.....wait till I lock the study door............................................................there!
Hmmmmmmmmmm...............................very provacative, sensuous, sexy and totally unfair to all the other exhibitors.
You have played the sex card and won the hand.
Now back to the photo.
excellent lighting and beautifully presented by showing enough red to tempt the viewer without using a sledge hammer.
No doubt we might have to start a new page to fit in the comments.
