Mark, there is, indeed, someone in the phone box. Perhaps you didn't realise because his coat is almost exactly the same red as the box itself - but you can see him there. Phil

Is there not supposed to be a person in the scene? Perhaps there si one in the box? Nice shot. Mark

Nice scene. I feel that a tad of USM will not hurt here

Hi Phil, The image looks great. As one of the previous posters said, I think it was the phone booth that was tilted in the first place in real life. This may just be a case where the abundance of verticals makes evident the glass quirks.

Oops - I thought I'd uploaded the 3rd version, but it seems not. On this (last!) one, I'm pretty sure the building is vertical, though the phone box now looks tilted (or it that just my imagination?). I did consider cropping the posts at the bottom, but I think I'll leave it as is for now...
Thanks for the comments everyone!
Phil

Man I'm getting giddy, can you guys just stop spinning for a while.
The blue building sure adds a lot of life to this shot. I would have tried the transform command and used perspective or distort and pulled the bottom of the picture forward until the posts disappeared..............I mean, who needs a wide angle lens when you can do this...............now I am getting sick.

I think you should just rotate it clockwise 90°. BINGO, no more skewed verticals!

Argh! Yes, Olaf, I know about the measure tool, which is how I got the telephone box vertical in the first place. Of course, that didn't take into account the perspective on the houses...
I think I'll leave it as is for now, after all, it's an old village and I'd be surprised if the houses were vertical in reality! Phil

OK, we've settled it. England is off-kilter. Wonderful colors in this shot, BTW. :-)

Sorry Phil, but still looks crooked to me. I think the telephone box is tilted in reality... I downloaded your third attempt and it still needed to be rotated 0.69 degrees CW to get the line between the blue house and and the brick houses vertical. That rotation also straigtened up the church, but on the right side of the image the verticals started tilting the opposite way. I contribute this to your earlier attempts at streching the upper right corner. I don't know if you already know this, but if you use the measure tool and then go to 'Image' -> 'Rotate Canvas' -> 'Arbitrary...', then the value needed to make an almost vertical vertical (or an almost horizontal horizontal) will already be in the box and all you have to do is press 'OK'. --Olaf.dk

Tch, there's no pleasing some people! I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get everything right - those bench legs are all over the place!
I was shooting slightly uphill, and as you can see there's also an incline up to the right. I originally concentrated on the phone box. I'll have another go but I'm not promising anything!

(edit) OK, third time lucky. I think the blue house is now straight as is the phone box.

Still crooked. I think you need to rotate the original image some. If you want the verticals to be straight then apply "perspective". Look at the line defined by the transition between the blue and brick houses. Also look at the verticals of the church and bench legs. --Olaf.dk

Slight skew applied - the blue building is now more upright I think. Anyone? Phil
ctfchallenge19-Jan-2005 10:05
Yeah, I like saturation too...give me glorious colour over boring black and white any day!
The buildings to the right look as though they could do with a slight lean backwards....should be easy enough with the skew tool.

Thanks Nugar - I did check the verticals on the phone box, so I'm pretty sure that's OK - if anyone else thinks I ought to have straightened by something else, I'd like to know. Thanks. Phil

I just love the quiet scene and the saturation. I'm in love with saturation. * You might want to straighten your verticals...
