Yes, Phil, you were the inspiration. I was more worried about getting hot oil on the photographer than I was of getting it on the photographic equipment. Besides that's what a UV filter is for. This picture was shot with a 50mm and the camera was a good distance, well let's say a safe distance, away from the hot oil. There is no resizing of this picture. It's a severe crop of the original image at the original size. Yes, it is a still life. The only thing moving was me when a kernel poped! LOL

Ah, so that was the idea I inspired you to try! I agree with Lonnit that you are brave (though this comes from the man who stuck his 24-70 right up to a kiln vent at 745 degrees just to get a picture...)
Anyway, can this be classed as a "still life" if the oil is bubbling? :)
