C.

Austin, Texas Capitol

I'm not putting an asterisk because punctuation is part of the title,
and I don't want the asterisk to detract from it. Pretend like there
is one there, though. This is a picture of this morning's occultation
of Jupiter by the Moon. This is right after Jupiter emerged again on
the West side of the Moon. In the foreground is the Texas Capitol
building, hence the initial C. standing for Capitol.

I suppose I should make a few comments on the lighting. The same light source was used for the moon and Jupiter. However, Jupiter is more than 4 times as reflective as the moon. On the other hand, the light source is 6 times as far away from Jupiter. So the reflected brightness after albedo and distance are taken into account is about 9 times as bright for the moon as for Jupiter. An appropriate choice for USM brightened Jupiter enough to match the moon. The capitol, on the other hand, while lit from generally the same direction, has a different light source -- multipl light sources, actually. The brightness of the capitol was significantly dimmery than for the moon or Jupiter. Consequently, I processed the original image twice, once at -0.6 EV and the other at +1.0 EV and blended the two with a suitable mask. No color correction has been done. I processed using daylight color balance. The capitol building is made out of pink granite, so with the illumination by artificial lights, it seems to match the coloration of the moon pretty well, in my opinion. -- Victor

Very, very nice. I can see the C. when I glue my ear to my shoulder :-)
