Breathless *

For any of you who saw an earlier work like this I assure you this is reshot in eligible dates. An earlier critique suggested getting some blur on the body.
Shot at F3.5, the widest the Sigma will go at 15mm.

other sizes: small medium original auto

Yeah, I think ultimately it would be dull to do that. I wouldn't get the same satisfaction. I like to suffer for my art :) Real life is too boring sometimes, I like things larger than life hence distortions, masks and odd situations. I'm sure a psychologist could tell me something about the real reasons I do it.

Been thinking along similar lines to Lonnit, except to me the flattering self-portraits are the exception. The image of you we've been presented with in these challenges have been mostly unflattering, perspectively distorted and/or photos with weird attributes like gas-masks and the like. I admire your courage, or indifference to how you project yourself. I hope and believe it is courage rather than indifference, as that means you are willing to sacrifice for your art. Like Lonnit, when picturing the true you in my minds eye, I try to hang on to your more normal looking self-portraits, like one of these:

Hey, I have a challenge for you: make the most flattering self-portrait you can muster. Maybe for you - that would take a lot of courage? Or maybe it'd just be too plain and boring to waste your time on? Just tell me to shut up already!!!

Silly me, all that and I forgot to say GREAT SHOT!!! But do I really have to? Isn't it always? :) ~ Lonnit

Please tell me the tats are PS'd in too! LOL! I must confess.... man, did you turn me off with this shot! I'm glad you meant to! I was pretty startled by it. I mean, here I am liking you, thinking how funny you are, how talented, striking eyes, attractive, nice physique... then BAMMO! You take your clothes off and it's all over! The aenemic white skin, the claw marks (from your wife?), the tatoos (I don't have a personal passion for them). I think the least of it is looking weak and sickly in that posture! I'm telling you pal, 'taint a pretty sight! LMAO! You've heard the expression, "You clean up real well"? Well, whatever is the opposite of that, this is it! LOL! Please don't mind if I prefer to think of you as you looked in that first shot of yours that wowed me - the wide angle where your bending over to peer into the camera, with the car in the background. Let's keep that one forever etched in my mind - not this! LOL! I think this is one of those "never meet your heroes" moments! ;) ~ Lonnit

And here I thought you might have been clawed by one of your little ones - and then you go tell us the only thing you've been in the clawed by - is Photoshop, LOL! BTW, I agree with Anders - I don't like it - it makes me uncomfortable. Of course, not being able to breathe is very uncomfortable too. Congratulations! --Olaf

Yes, this is extremely unsettling, but also extremely well done! The scars and the circles under the eyes are a brilliant touch.

Yes - I'm particularly pleased about that. I was hoping this would be a slightly bleak/unsettling image, hence the cold colours and fleshtones. You don't like it and you keep coming back to it - perfect!

Anna - for the record, the scars are not real. Nor are the bags under my eyes. It was just a photoshop technique to see if I could make them look real. Whilst I admit I'm never a picture of perfect health, I hope I look better than this normally :)

I keep coming back to this picture, even though I don't really want to look at it. It's disturbing to me, and I don't often react that way. Very strong image - I don't like it, which is very good if you know what I mean. I took a long time thinking about whether to comment and I hope you read this as high praise. :-)

Hoff! Cool portrait! Agree with the others about the excellent backgroud colour. Nice pale fleshtones. And a great expression... =) /Jonas Svedberg

Perfect focus, great composition, are those scars on your shoulders?

Creative and engaging, as usual; somewhat freaky. Agree with Scott on the use of color; background hue is perfect. The image begs to be a CD cover. Also, was commenting the other day that I haven't seen much of iso. Guess you solved that [*sMiLe*]. --Joe

ISO, I alway love the color in your work. The higher key approch works well with this image.
