Slow shutter with downward panning was used to create the image. Yes, it was raining at the time and, yes, the diagonal lines are products of the pan rather than the rain. Yet, I feel it conveys the sense of early autumn rain. Is it graphic? In my mind, graphic is all about geometry (lines, curves, planes, surfaces, etc). Typically we use bold colors, nonfractal shapes, repeating pattern, and strong contrast to demarcate the imaged shapes. Furthermore, we simplify our images to remove any detraction from the depicted geometry-that means few shapes only. But is that necessary. In a previous entry I chose a very complex subject, a cityscape with many texture compartment, to see whether one can still achieve the supremacy of the geometry. Here, I was interested in whether the graphic sense of an image can withstand lower contrast and weak edges.
