Graphic Outlet

I tried fixing the original, but couldn't make it to my liking. So I retook the photo and adjusted it according to Olaf's Suggestion. I hope this one is a bit better.

Speaking of shadow, I think I'd rather see it on the other side. But I might change my mind after seeing it. It's probably mainly because the chrome in Windows has the light source from over the left shoulder. -- Victor

Byron, I don't remember exactly what I wrote in my comment, but I do remember that my main intent with playing with your image was to change the proportions and framing. The image I posted was meant as an illustration of my intent. I did NOT mean to express: "Look, here is how it should be done". I saw a quick and simple way to do something about the feathered edge, so while I had your image in Photoshop anyway, I went ahead and did it. As I said, this was secondary. Actually, when I clicked on the selection tool, it was to isolate the outlet so that I could move it. Between clicking on the tool and dragging the marquee out, I saw the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Re-shooting, maintaining the real shadow and slight texture of the wall, sure beats trying to simulate things in Photoshop. You did the right thing! --Olaf

Aha! I thought your shaddow was weird looking. I couldn't figure out how you had done that either. Cutting and pasting... I should have guessed. I guess in my defense, the only modifications to the original photo was to use the color variations tool to add blue to the wall and a little usm. I only have PSElements, so I don't even know if I can do the drop shaddow thingy. -Byron

The rectangular selection tool if you wish - top left in the tools palette. --Olaf

What is the marquee tool? -- Victor

Victor, nothing fancy - I just used the rectangular marquee tool (after having rotated the image) and copied the outlet (without shadows) on to a layer by itself. I then added a drop shadow layer style to the new layer and filled the background with a sampled color of the blue. This gave me total freedom in positioning the outlet. Last step was the frame. --Olaf

Byron, This image is quite improved over your previous one. But the edge isn't quite as crisp as the one Olaf produced. Perhaps Olaf (I think that's who posted it) could share what he did.... -- Victor

I deleted my other one and posted this new version. I figured it would be better for voting time to see this version as I had to re-take this photo to get it right. Sorry for erasing the comments from before... but maybe you can leave some new ones. -Byron
