Interior of Dreams *

Dreams are typically monochromatic. When dreaming in color as when transitioning to waking state, only parts of the scene are colored. I think that the colors are not necessarily confined to a specific object. I bet its our attention that shifts to different items and so it may seem that objects of focus are colored. What appears to be common to many folks is that we often find ourself in familiar and yet not quite right locations. To give that sense, the hallway in my house was shot at low shutter speed while panning. I shot a second shot of me sitting in the hallway. I am often just an observer and not a participant in my dreams. Sometime completely disengaged as I tried to convey here. Sometime I am watching myself as I am doing right this second in looking at the photo :-). The hallway and the image of me was taken with with a 17mm focal length and thus the geometric distortion. The color object is actually a print fabric shot in a third shot. This image was then manipulated in PS to yield the colored object and its shadow. Initially I uploaded an image where the object was distinct and its shadow matched realistically. I don't think that's how it is in dreams where we only roughly simulate reality. Thus the interpretation you see now.

Thank you. This effort started me thinking about other dream images I would like to make. Not so much their symbolism which doesn't interest me as much as trying to evoke the actual feel of dreams, their disporportinate emotive content, their sense of distance from reality, etc.

Very interesting. I stopped to look at this one for a while and ponder. You seem to have chosen a good subject for the challenge, most of us I imagine will have considered the 'mind' as one of the interiors we could chose. But, how hard is it to create something that manages to portray the 'mind', very! I think you've done a pretty good job here. The montage blends in well, the perspectives match the description and it is quite a thought provoking scene, slightly anguished I thought. Anyway, we will see how the PS work affects the voting but I have a feeling this might go down quite well, even though it has been heavily PP'd. Well done. - Jono
