Wow, Victor, you may me feel like a real amateur! Indeed, that is a much better image for the work you have done. I'm aware that the 10D can blow reds easily, and really should have thought of that when I chose the clothing to use.
Thanks for your input. Phil

Whoops! That is dpreview syntax. I didn't want the picture to display here. Remove the semicolon from the URL if you want to see the picture. -- Victor

I was thinking the same thing about the blown reds. Unfortunately, the histogram on the Canon 10D makes it very easy to blow reds. I decided to try an experiment. I took this image and used channel mixer to eliminate the red channel. Then I changed to lab and adjusted the lightness channel using levels and curves. I took a copy of this channel and then pasted it into the lightness channel of the original image. More tweaking is needed, but this shows how much detail is still in the picture even though the red channel is blown.http://the-light.com/Photography/dpreview/challenge/sewinclined.jpg;

Anna, the colour is actually pretty close to correct, but I agree it's very difficult to get reds right. I almost always boost saturation on my images a little but did not on this one. I really wanted a strong colour, but this might not have been the best choice... Phil

The angle of the needle and the black thread is nice. The red seems to be overblown though, I always have the same problem with red. Would be interesting to see a good way of fixing this.
