Don't worry Karl, because this is a fake motion blur... don't even try to pan to reproduce the effect, LOL, you're better off in Photoshop! Not a good idea to stop the ball AND blur at the same time, as they're literally opposite effects, therefore impossible to have both in a photo. Fake blur is the #1 turn-off for me :-/

were you laterally panning with this as well? I was using 1/1000 at a baseball game on the weekend, and was getting neglible movement. certainly nothing of this magnitude.
