Love means not ever having to say you're sorry
by Vikas

The famous line from one of my favourite books, 'Love Story'. Was browsing through it for the n-th time and thought of taking a photograph with the page open on this particular line.

I really like this image, but it appears a bit oversharpened to me, especially for the subject. I do like the high contrast at the edges of the pages, candle, etc., but the halos around the text and glasses I find distracting. -- Victor

Of course no offence taken Mark; on the contrary, I greatly appreciate your comments since it helps me learn and grow as a photographer which is what one participates in these challenges for. Thanks again. Cheers! ..... Vikas.

I like this rendition better, Vikas. It was just too harsh a light in the other image, which kind of took away from the mood created by the book, rose petals and candle. Thank you for not taking offense to my expressed feelings on your lovely image. Markjay

Thanks Mark, greatly appreciate your comment on this photograph and yes, had to use a desk lamp to get this effect. Tried it with just the candle, but that meant a really long exposure during which time the candle flame which was doing it's own song and dance routine (since it couldn't be controlled), was completely blurry, spoiling the effect. If I kept a higher shutter speed, the lighting on the rose petals and the book was terrible. Even in this one, I had to bump up the ISO to 400 and 800, ideally wanted aperture to be F/8 to get some DOF, but had to settle for F/5.6 (anything lower and only a few words from the page were in focus) and a shutter speed of 1/60, to get proper lighting on the book and petals. Took lots of images with different light effects but ultimately settled for this shot. Have played some with levels/curves and reloaded the image. Let me know what you think of it now. Thanks again.... Vikas.

Very interesting concept here, Vikas. If you don't mind my saying (you didn't ask*), I feel as though your lighting source has overpowered your candle by MANY candle's :-) Maybe turn out the light in the room and leave only the candle light? I apologize for posting this comment here but, I could not help myself... there's so much potential for this image!! Markjay
