Andrew, if you are still around, can you please email me, msoo@soocool.com and share your basic workflow on getting this beautiful piece? Thanks in advance,

yes the blown highlights does have that strange glowing appearance to it. The original photo actually was not too bad (not anything I did---mostly because she had a good expression on her face). It has been fun to play around a bit with a photo, but perhaps too much of a good thing makes things worse. I attempt was to show a bit more of an interesting style---perhaps I failed and perhaps not. However, I am starting to agree with you background comment. The more I look at it, it does somehow not only detract from the woman, but also tosses the photo off balance a bit. It seem to "heavy" to the left of the frame for a lack of a better expression. Thanks for the comment.

Hmmm since you asked for candid unfiltered opinions here is mine.

I really dislike the overblown highlights on her face it really detracts from the picture. The white looks like it glowing if you know what I mean =) and as others have said the colors in the background ruin the overblown effect that you were trying to achieve.

I think you had a good idea trying to bring the color of her eyes and hair out!

Keep shooting can't wait to see your next submission

Hi Olaf. Thank you for your comments. I forgot that when a person wants people to talk frankly about their images it must have (*) around the title. I forgot to include that. I appricate your suggestions and they are not in any way too harsh. I am always open to learning. Andrew

I like this image a lot, I am just starting out and tend to stick with B&W mainly for the comfort factor. This type of color image gives me a lot of ideas on how to be safe. Good post work.

Sorry for going on and on - just thought of a third option: Crop like I suggested before, and then add white space on the right to get a different aspect ratio than a square. I really think that would be the way I would choose to go. --Olaf

Andrew, glad my comment was well received, and very happy that you feel that you've learned something. After I had posted my comment, I noticed you hadn't put an asterisk (*) in the title, so was unsure of whether I had been too critical. Actually, of the two suggestions I gave, I think I would prefer the second one (cropping) the best. Of course, I haven't seen what the uncropped image looks like with the background white. --Olaf

Olaf, thanks for the suggestion. Taking the background to pure white was a struggle for me in that I didn't know if I wanted to do it or not. I think if I had it would have given the person much more focus and intensity about her. I guess I was trying to create a sense of depth to what was already becoming a 2D looking image as a result of a lack of shadows. I sat down and reworked the image after your comment and I think it looks pretty good with your suggestion as well. So I am torn, but sure learning a great deal. Thanks again. Andrew

Thanks Joe for the reminder. I have now included the date. Just discovered this forum. What a great idea. Andrew

Andrew, interesting idea! I think I would like it better without the darker elements behind her back, keeping the shoulder line, but letting the rest of the background be white, as it in front of the face. An alternative would be cropping down to a square, keeping the rightmost part of the frame. --Olaf

Andrew: Creative work, off the beaten path. Certain intrigue to it. Can I ask you to include the shot date, to avoid any confusion? Thanks. --Joe
