Asked for advice in the challenge-thead at dpreview. Got feed-back from Al Pacheco. Listened to his advice and have done the following in this third version: cropped off from the top and some from the left, cloned out other persons jeans behind his head and darkened his jeans. Better? Version two can be seen here for comparison (remove comma at the end):http://homepage.mac.com/me2/.Pictures/Olafs%20photos%201/101_0170_web2.jpg, --Olaf

As there were no additional comments so far, and as I agree that the people in the background were distracting, I cloned them out. Cropping might still be the best thing to do, but I don't like the resulting aspect ratio: too close to a square, yet clearly not a square. The originally posted picture (with the people in the background) can be found here for comparison (http etc, but no www in front of): homepage.mac.com/me2/.Pictures/Olafs%20photos%201/101_0170_web.jpg --Olaf

Mark, thanks for the praise and suggestion! I have often thought of cropping the image like you suggest and I have also tried it, but couldn't make up my mind of which crop I liked best. Ideally I should have lowered the camera after focusing (central AF-sensor), but this was truly a back-bone quick reaction type of shot. If I had lowered the camera, the moment would probably have been gone. As you have the advantage of looking at this image without my associations to the place and subject, you are probably right. Before I alter it though, I would like to hear others' opinions as well. What do you other cslr_challenge-people think?

NIce shot, Olaf! I think the image is really excellent but, could REALLY use a crop out of the top portion where the horizon line and people are (taking them out of the pic). Without those distracting elements (cropped out with my hand to check ;-) the image is even better! Mark J
