Tim, I had a go at a similar shot last night but made a bit of a mess of it.
First I poured meths into a block of ice I had shaped like a bowl but when I tried to light it the meths was too diluted to light.
Next I poured some meths onto the ground and lit it and moved the ice into it. This worked ok, I grabbed a couple of shots and decided I needed more meths....(see where this is going yet?)
I poured more meths onto the patch already lit which of course also ingited in the plastic bottle which I then dropped and spilled the rest of the meths all over the place!

Didn't do any damage to me or to the patio (as meths burns at a low temperature) but didn't manage to get the shots I wanted.
From the couple of shots I did get, the flames are a nice blue-purple colour. I might try it again sometime but not in time for the competition.

Absolutely! give it a shot. Be great to see other ones like it.

Tim, great shot. You beat me to it. I was about to try a shot like this tonight using ice and meths.
If you don't mind I'll maybe try it anyway.

This is nice. Maybe just a few more cubes along the bottom of the frame? One of the few images in this challenge that really follows the theme. Although all are really nice.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the info. I thought gasoline because of the strong orange color. I always thought alcohol burned with an almost invisible blue flame. I'll have to try that. I like the effect this flame provides, it could be useful in other shots. Thanks again.

Thanks Mark, I used rubbing alcohol and many cubes of ice to get this picture.

Hi Tim,

nICE shot. This is a really dramatic flame shot. I can see the ice is melting quickly, what did you use for the flame? It looks like gasoline. I thought about using gasoline in mine but a little voice in my head kept telling me "gas in small space, bad idea". I like how the ice cube is just about out of the picture but isolated in small region of clearing through the flames.
