Hi Tholo,

I did the wedding photo in color with the goal of showing that as being the healthy period of our lives while the remainder of the shot is in BW to strengthen the weight of the times of sickness. I think the shot loses some of its power due to the brightening I did to to make it appear on the screen for most people. I have an LCD here that is very bright (tried everything to reduce it) that makes an image look nice to me but dark to everyone else. So I brightend it up and I think thats where it lost a lot of the effect as the subtle color became garish and artificial.

I think if I were to print it I would do it all BW as you suggest.

Thank you very much for you comments.

It's a wonderful pic, very touching. It's just the colored wedding pic, first, I liked the color, but after looking a while on it, I think I would prefer it in bw. The wedding pic is big enough to be seen and to deliver its message, the color seems not necessary to me. It attracts almost to much and don't give me the time to discover it myself. The other thing is that the color makes the pic some artificial, everybody sees that it was manipulated which is some kind disturbing the very basic and deep emotion that it creates in me.
Not easy to explain... :-), but again: really great pic.

Like everyone else has said, this is a powerful shot. I do agree with what you also said, the picture is a little too bright, but really does not take anything away from the shot.

Great Job

Mark

A powerful image which I like a lot.
I'm glad you have assured us it's "staged" though...

Hi Angela, Hi Ralph,

I'm really happy you guys like this shot, I actually dreamed this one. I know that sounds a little wierd but I was on the road and with all the talk of the flu I think it put this bug in my head. After returning from a job site I passed out and this was one of the images I had. When I got home Wednesday afternoon I told my wife about the dream and the shot I wanted to do and thats when she said it sounded a little morbid but she did it anyway. I'm gald she did I really think this gets the image from my dream across very well. The only thing I don't like is that I have a monitor calibration issue like Olaf so I brightened it up and bit. When I did that you see how the frame of the picture becomes more like it was pasted there instead of being a part of the image. The shadow still holds it down but it looks better here in its orginal form.

Thanks again for your comments.

Oh my goodness this is so eminently powerful. What a striking set of opposites. So moving. I'm just stunned. -- angela :)

Mark, I love it! What a great idea for the challenge, putting the wedding photo behind the bed. Great concept! - Ralph Otto

Hi Denise,

Like Olaf I am having some trouble with monitor calibration so I uploaded an updated image that is a a little brighter. Thank you for your comments. I really have liked this topic you picked. It has given me a lot of ideas. I have one more good one but I don't think I will be able to do it. It would be very strong in its statement of opposites but the site and models I need would be hard to come by with so little time left. I'm sure someone else might be able to pull it off.

Thanks again,

Mark Hensley
