Historical Reflection*
by Olaf.dk

Skindergade, Copenhagen, Denmark

I wrote about historical versus modern buildings in the challenge-thread at dpr. Here's a photo on the same subject. For eight years, I lived on this street, right in the centre of Copenhagen. Walked by this picture opportunity many times. Never took anything but mental pictures of it though - until today.

We had some sun here today, which is very, very rare this time of year. And as I am probably going to part with my EOS10D for recalibration tomorrow, I just HAD to take a picture for this challenge TODAY. Of course when I got to the spot, the sun was partially obscured. Had to play a little with curves and masks in photoshop to get the picture somewhat like I'd previsualized it. If you didn't already catch it, the title can be understood in two, equally valid, ways.

Canon EOS 10D ,Tamron SP AF 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6
1/45s, F8.0 at ISO400, Aperture-Priority AE-mode, -1 Exp. comp., Whitebalance: 5600K. full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Victor, no I don't think so. It is probably just a matter of the owners preference... --Olaf

Is that why the wood which normally would be a contrasting color is the color of the main part of the facade?

The house is one of the oldest in Copenhagen. Copenhagen was plagued by a lot of fires in earlier days. After one of the great ones, half-timbered houses to the streets were banned, so these are pretty rare. This house is probably from the seventeen-hundreds. In the US that would be considered very old! I do see what you mean about the eye not resting... Thanks for commenting! --Olaf

Olaf,
I like the idea here and it's a good capture but, I don't think the building looks that old. Where I live this would be considered a relatively new building, you've chosen a tough subject to find and it's a real shame your camera is going back for recalbration.

One other point, I can't rest on the image because of the conflicting lines proud, calm or on the move?

Cheers
