Traffic

Not as good as I'd hoped, but I won't get chance to shoot outside again within eligible dates. Always good fun to do these though

Hi Frederic. Yes, this shot was originally bathed in an orange glow - a side effect of the sodium lights used on most roadways because of their efficient running costs. Solution? Custom white balance. I shoot RAW and play with the balance afterwards. By sampling the white lines on the road, I can get the colour pretty accurate. I've also adjusted the blue cast slightly for my own tastes.

Nice one. I like the blue colour of the traffic lights. Wanted to do something similar but all lights are orange on highways around here ...

ISO – Great shot, I am still having problems getting night shots right, I tried to get some of the eclipse last night and only got a couple that were passable so I really appreciate a good night shot. Yours is very good, and I thought of the theme of the film and the drugs and I thought it went well with the shot J

Hi Earl, This is iso100, f13, 30 seconds. I have taken 3 shots bracketed a stop each way and picked the best. Then I've composited in the extra light trails by stacking the 2 other images to thicken the traffic flow as it wasn't a busy night. The starbursts are completely *natural* - this is an effect you get on digital with long exposures and bright sources.

These are great fun to do, and with digital so much easier than film as you can see how well you're doing! Take a sturdy tripod :-) Well worth having a go if you've never done them before.

Iso, this is a beautiful long exposure photo. I am wondering what the exif info looks like though. Would you mind sharing it? I’ve thought about doing a “traffic” shot in the past, and would like to have one come out as nice as this. It is interesting to see that the xenon headlights look so blue next to the normal white lights. I like the starburst effect on the street lights too. Was that done with a filter? –Earl Waud

I think you'll find it was the traffic that caused the red and blue light trails...

Great, clean shot. All your shots always look so fresh and clean. :) I think I'd maybe have liked to have seen a title with "America" in it, as it is a nice representation of stars & stripes, red, white & blue. Always a pleasure to see your work. ~ Lonnit

Ha! I had thought of doing something very similar with the same film title. Nice, crisp exposure. -Ed Hahn

Again...a crisp clean image as usual but I don't see any "traffic" ;)
