I will echo others in saying - great idea, well executed. Wish it were mine. Denise

Ed, just because it wasn't concious doesn't mean you can't take credit for it! Your subconcious gut feeling told you to take it from that angle and with that lighting and composition. No matter if the decision was made while taking the shot or after when choosing this particular shot - it was your decision! ~ Olaf

Al - I'd like to take credit for the tension between the diagonal and straight lines, but, uh, it just happened (and of course is unavoidable without that TS-E lens I've been coveting). :-)- Ed Hahn

Ditto what the others have said. But you know what I like even more is how the diagonal lines of the board conflict with the natural (or not natural?) straight borders of the image itself. The eye is uncomfortable looking at the edges of the image and constantly seeks out the center, where the action is...and the fallen King. --Al Pacheco

Nice one Ed. A really simple idea but the composition and lighting are excellent.
I had a similar idea for the movie First Knight but couldn't find my chess board.

Very nice shot. Great dramatic lighting creates long shadows. Very well done.

Another one from *Studio Ed*. Well composed and lit. Concept and execution superb. From what I've seen so far, all your entries are gonna be strong contenders at voting time.

I like this. I like the directional backlight and shadows. Also like the way you grouped all the King's men. Well done! ~ Olaf

Great idea, well done... It did make me think of a gruesome (and kinda cheesy) variation: add a pool of bright red blood coming from the "fallen king".
