"Wait 'til next year" is a VERY common cliche among sports fans when their teams have lost and they start dreaming of the championship they'll win next year. Especially applied to perennial losers like the Cubs and (until recently) Red Sox. Hundreds of thousands of examples here:
So that's why I liked the title for the kids on ice skates looking at the snowy baseball field, as if thinking about next summer. You can take it or leave it.
I can't say it is an expression I am really familiar with, but I would be the last one to state with confidence that it does not fall within the ambit of the challenge. The little guys do indeed portray a kind of sadness, as if they have to wait for a while to do that they keen to do. Kind regards Nico
