(_LND0975.jpg) The sign states this tree fell over unexpectedly one day in 1959. It is about 2300 years old, 272 feet long and 20 feet in diameter at the base. It is quite normal for events like that to happen with Giant Sequoia trees. They also shatter when they hit the ground, as the wood is rather soft. This is one of the reasons they were never harvested way back. The wood is actually not good for much. That's my brother Dave standing at the base (he's about 5'6").
