November 25 - Continental Rocks

Leckhampton Hill, Gloucestershire

I was taken by these trees and almost didn't spot a plaque on the the rocks to the right.
They are a monument to a horse called 'The Continental', 1891-1902 winner of 25 Steeplechases.
It is amazing how you can live somewhere for years, be very familiar with the area, and still find something that you've never seen before.

strong comp, and a note of optimism with that bit of clear sky amid the brooding clouds...V

Oh yes. I know that feeling very well. In any event, this is a fine composition. The sky and the tree are working magically together. V

I see blue sky! Did the sculptor forget to chip away the non-horsey bits? ;o)

I love this... -- and not just because it's one of my favourite spots: that sky is magnificent! V.
