Euplectes afer afer - Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia to West-Sudan, DR Congo and Northwest-Angola;
Euplectes afer ladoensis - South-Sudan and Southwest-Ethiopia to North-Tanzania;
Euplectes afer taha - Southwest-Angola, Zambia and Southwest-Tanzania to South Africa.
