I've been looking for one of these for years!
I finally found one in the Nepalese pavilion at
Global Village, in Dubai.
Along with a few Buddhas, for my collection...

Oh - the way it works is that you rub the wooden stick
around the shiny edge of the bowl.
After a few turns, it begins to vibrate, giving off a deep,
mellow, penetrating sound that seems to go through you.
It's the same kind of effect as making a wine glass sing, but
with a much deeper note.
You can imagine it sounding in a Tibetan Monastery.
