Unfortunately, our event was cut short when someone complained about the noise our group was making (cheering the riders on) and called the police. Even though the crowd became quiet when asked to do so, we were told to leave.

Next year, the Los Angeles Wheelmen, the club that sponsors this annual event, may have to apply for a police permit in order to keep this Los Angeles tradition going.

The opinions expressed herein and in the comments below are not those of the Los Angeles Wheelmen bicycle club.

Oh for crying out loud, don't people have anything better (worse) to complain about? If it were the middle of the night, I could see a problem with noise, but not during the day, and only once a year. Also I wouldn't be surprised if some of the complainers play there stereos so loud you could hear them a block away.

I wonder how much it will cost for a permit? Also, what is the permit for?

Allegedly, they were called out twice by a resident complaining about elevated vocals. In 35 or 40 years, this is a first!!

How incredibly disappointing to read this. I almost didn't click on this photo. In such a difficult economy - with all the other truly criminal things going on in the world - THIS is what the police decide to "enforce"???

A NOISE complaint? It's a good thing I wasn't there or I may have been arrested. I hate being told what to do by "authorities" when no one is being harmed....

How pathetic and ludicrous!

If we have a permit, how does that negate any noise complaints from residents?

Good God, man!! We could have all been arrested on hundreds of counts of felony hill climbing!!!

This is the city, Los Angeles, California. Millions of people live, work, and play here. When the playing gets out of hand, I go to work. I carry a badge...

I believe that the event should be posted, and charge a $5.00 registration (online or at event site). This would pay for police and city permits, and be able to keep the event going. I have gone up Fargo St., and it is an amazing ride. I plan to be there next year - and would like NOT to have police there.

Don't they have enough crime up there?
