Celebrating the Birthday of Tin Hau

Yuen Long, Hong Kong view map

On the 23rd day of the 3rd month of Lunar Year (in 2009 it is on 18 April),
a 3-hour parade with Lion and Dragon Dances
is held in Yuen Long (the northwest suburbs of Hong Kong)
to celebrate the Birthday of Tin Hau.

Tin Hau is widely worshipped in south-east coastal areas of China.
The people believe she protects fishermen and sailors.

The Birthday of Tin Hau (Goddess of the Sea) is
one of the important festivals in Chinese Calendar.
