Where paths enter villages, an local earth god shine is usually found.
These are sometimes just a stone or a trough of earth at the foot of a tree,
but are often more elaborate structure of brick and stone.
Local earth God is worshiped by villagers and farmers
for their safety and good harvest.
Because the Chinese believe tree is the real home of the deity,
the shine is often built near a tree.
