Elegant Tern

Monterey Bay

This tern was seen near the start of the trip. When I took the photo I thought it was a Caspian Tern because of the thick, all-orange bill. However, Caspians don't have white foreheads, and its wings are more slender than a Caspian's. Elegant Tern? This is the only photo I have of this bird.

This is an Elegant Tern, based on the long and orange bill, the dark trailing edge on the upperwing tells you it is a young of the year.
