This posing Bull reminds me of the Story of Ferdinand (1936), the best known work written by American author Munro Leaf and illustrated by Robert Lawson. Here's my verse remembering Ferdinand ~
Follow your heart
take no part in bull-y-ing
be like Ferdinand
the Gracious Beast
loving flowers and trees and
and not bending even a bees' knee
MEMORY: When I was a young child living on a dairy farm, I would stand on
the rungs of the fence surrounding the bull and call out to him. Although I am now told that
bulls are color-blind, one day when I was wearing a dress with red apples on it,
the bull charged, broke down the fence, and chased me. I ran around the house
with the bull right behind me.
What surely saved my life was my thinking to duck behind a bush
beside the house! The bull ran on and was eventually captured.
(An early experience that has contributed, no doubt, to my being a professional clown.)
