08 The Break

Green Valley, AZ

I had fun with this one.
I started by shooting a video of a strong break just to see what I could see.
Using Lightroom, I then extracted a single frame jpeg.
Here, the cue ball is coming in from about the 11:00 position, and leaving toward 8:00, as a white streak in both cases.
I took that jpeg into the newest Photoshop and "enhanced" it - meaning I doubled the pixel size in both dimensions and yielded a .dng
I then took it back into Lightroom for post processing of the tones, etc.
I finished it with the latest Topaz DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI.

Wow! This is terrific. And you've answered the question I had about the triptych (3 consecutive shots in a 10fps burst).

Where are Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, and Tom Cruise?

Thanks. The why can be seen by looking at the 1st composite I posted of a break. This is 3 consecutive shots as fast as the camera can shoot - about 10 frames a sec. Certainly not fast enough to capture all the action I was looking for and impossible to time it correctly.
So I tried my video.
The how is rather straightforward, as Lightroom can do that. You can't edit a video with LR, but you can pull out a jpeg still.
But the cue ball moves too fast for any shot to catch it exactly at a point in time hitting the stack of balls. I shot about 10 breaks, and the composite I showed is the best of the bunch.

This is the best...but why, or technically how, to pull a jpeg out of a video!?! Jim, you are always amazing me with your technical expertise...seriously, you are a VALUABLE asset to all of us. Best Wishes, Traveller
