Dave, I guess it depends on your point of view as to which one is the "alien." As far as I know, you are correct about only female bees and wasps having stingers ... but I am definitely no expert. I think Paul was just taking poetic license when making his comment. The plant is a milkweed plant ... I think ... again, I'm no expert. Thanks for looking and commenting! - Ken

Who is the alien, photographer or subject?

I thought only female bees and wasps had stingers.

Any idea what kind of plant?

Dave

Thanks again, guys! Traveller, I didn't use flash on any of these ... flash usually makes everything look so fake ... I never use it unless it's absolutely necessary and even then I usually don't like the results. I'd rather have a little more noise in the image than fake-looking lighting. As for the 18-135mm STM ... I love that lens! It's my favorite APSC Canon lens. It's plenty sharp, has a great range, is fast enough for most purposes and focuses very close. - Ken

That is sharp, sharper than his stinger. Paul.

All of these are outstanding....are you using any flash? I have the 18~135, though mostly as a video lens...I need to look again at what is possible. Thanks, Traveller

Great capture, and title. It makes you wonder what is going though its brain.
