0 for 100 -- been there, done that. Recently it has been a couple of good shots from 600 taken at a soccer match. And if you shoot BIF (birds in flight), you are always tossing oof shots of trees, etc.

"I shot about 100 shots, some with flash some without. There was a slight breeze so I'd say about 100 of them were OOF."

That was so funny, I laughed and laughed!

But probably sadly true.

I shot about 100 shots, some with flash some without. There was a slight breeze so I'd say about 100 of them were OOF. Even this one is slightly off. Some I misted with a fine water sprayer and as his nature tells him to he would dash out and and clear it off.
I found this one because the wife and I were enjoying supper on the patio when I saw the web strung between the table and a chair. At first I didn't see him in the web because he (most likely a she) is so small.
As far as shooting again they usually don't venture far away and build a new web every other day or so but I've not seen him since and his old web is gone. I read somewhere once that some of the sub species eat parts of their old web when they leave it but that sounds a little odd to me nor have I ever observed it.

Very nicely done and processed. I've never been great at finding these, never mind shooting them. Did you (or could you) try other lighting as well, such as a flash?

Ask and I shall answer. It's true there is no reference as to size of the spider and with a macro it's hard to show size. This is a orb weaver spider and they can get quite large, the average body size I've seen of a full sized adult is about the size of a nickel and this guy is 2 or at the most 3 mm. I can't get the full body and legs of a adult in my frame at 1:2 and this is about 1:2 with a slight crop. His web is about the size of a baseball where a full adults web will be much larger than a basketball.

As far as my claim to his web building skills..... Well this web is really rough and irregular as compared a skilled builder. That tight honey comb feature in the middle is also a little unusual.

As far as light goes it's edited natural lighting. It was 1+ stop overexposed (a real problem I'm having lately) so I used the DPP linear response box and changed the WB to 2500k with a slight boost in saturation then desaturated the spider body in Photoshop, resized and done. Paul.

You know, it DOES look like a baby spider. Traveller

How did you do the lighting on this? This is fabulous...son!...lol

Really, really good work though.

(still how do you know it's a child spider? Just curious....not challenging your entry at all. I am just figuring you know all things)
