Thanks K. I don't know how I was able to do it. First shot in the door, and I just set the ISO and then the aperture, and dialed the shutter with my index finger while just looking at the in cam meter. Took the shot and looked at it, and realized .3 sec! Quickly dialed up to 1/5 or 1/6 thinking maybe I'd get a few of them clear. Finally, ended up at 1/13 sec where I was more confident. Zoomed in on this original, and you can clearly read the row numbers from the little "plaques" on the ends of the benches. Beginner's luck, I guess. I'll be heading back with a tripod at some point though.
Difficult to believe that this is hand hold shot. Nice deep colors and great feeling of perspective and symmetry, very well done, Peter. K

Thanks for all your kind words! And thanks again to Daniel for reminding me with post in Exhibition that I wanted to stop at this synagogue while I was in NYC and photograph the interior. @ Traveller: I also have not been in many synagogues, other than when I am shooting a bar/bat mitzvah. I certainly have never seen a synagogue with such a beautiful interior before.
Wide, indeed, Peter! And an image that does—though being maybe a tad too unrealistically artsy as ultra-wide pictures often look to my eyes—the beautiful interior of the temple justice. I love it! ~ db.
1/3sec hand held is....a rock like countenance....lol...amazing detail and color. This is going to sound bad, but among friends, what the heck...being non-Jewish, I've been in more Mosques than Synagogues...I have been to Friday services within the West Wall in Jerusalem...but probably never a Synagogue...anywhere, maybe in the original Ghetto in Venice. This seems odd to me now in retrospect, seeing your image...I will have to ask my Jewish friends why this is so.
Strikingly lovely image...and anything that makes me think is good.
