10th Place "Noisemaker" by jnconradie

Centurion, South Africa

A section of the infamous "vuvuleza", the blowing horn that is causing so much noise and so much discussion during the FIFA World Cup 2010 matches. An audio clip is here

Sorry, Kelly. Good question... deserving of an explanation. I traced back through the images I took and realised that the third light (the one from below) must have been switched off when the actual image was made. My apologies. The yellow strips were thus lit only by light "wrapping around" the tube of the vuvuzela from the two strip lights. I posted the unedited version in Pending. My apologies for a misleading set-up shot. Regards Nico

Thank you Nico - that explains it perfectly! Great setup shot. And your personal pursuit of light is inspirational.

When you said "a section" I was thinking too much in an architectural sense; literally a slice.

There still remains a question: how does the golden/ orange-ish striped ornament almost seems to glow while the other parts seems so opaque?

Hi Kelly, thanks for the comment. I hope the two pics in Pending will help to clarify the photograph? If not, please do let me know. Regards Nico

Very nice Nico!!! and very much spot on topic.

Even after you've indicated that it was a section and I've read and listened to the links, I am still not getting what part I'm looking at. Could you please post in pending or where ever a setup shot?

- Kelly
