Porthcurno Beach

Porthcurno Beach. The cliffs and coatline around Porthcurno are officially designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
and widely considered as one of the most stunning in the United Kingdon.
(And yes, the sea really was this colour!)

Just visible in the upper right corner is a small white pyramid. Built from granite and painted white, it is about 3 m tall and was erected
to aid navigation on the site where a submarine telegraph was laid in 1880 to connect to the French port of Brest. This was part of the first
cable connection from the UK to the American continent passing through Porthcurno to Brest and then via the trans-Atlantic cable first to
Saint-Pierre and Michelon in Canada and thence to Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
