Whale watching

From July to October, the clear warm waters of Hervey Bay/Fraser Island become a popular playground
for Humpback whales during their migration to Antartica.

Despite being the tail end of the whale watching season, we decided to go on a morning cruise
on board the Quick Cat 2, which departed from Fraser Island's Kingfisher Bay where we were
staying. The crew did a fine job of locating several Humpback Whales during the cruise!

No breaching was observed, but we got to see mothers with calves, breath taking displays
of tails and fins, slapping and splashing, and kept our eyes peeled for tell tale whale
"foot prints" in the water. Having never seen whales in the wild it was quite an experience.
Particularly as we had some whales quite close to the boat!

The images have been moved over to my main Wildlife galleries on pbase.
