Located about 40km north east of Jabiru, Ubirr is one of Kakadu National Park's important Aboriginal
rock art sites. If you time it right you can enjoy a free Ranger talk on Aboriginal art and culture
while enjoying some of the oldest Aboriginal rock art and shelter drawings on earth.

A hike up the rock plateau enables one to enjoy views of the surrounding escarpments, wetlands
floodplains and towards Arnhem Land. It was a rather steep rocky climb, tricky trying to balance
myself while carrying heavy cameras/lenses etc. Add to that the heat and jelly legs I decided to
not go right to the very top (apparently the 360 degree views at the top are wonderful though).
It is also apparently a great sunset spot but we weren't too keen to be driving after sundown
due to the isolation or chance of wildlife being on roads on night. So we did a morning visit.
