Alexander City, Alabama has been holding a free Jazz Festival for the past 13 years. I just now got around to checking it out. I passed on Friday night, which was held on Broad Street in the center of town, because there was a 90% chance of heavy thunderstorms.

Saturday night was held at the Lake Martin amphitheater and it was quite a setting, overlooking the lake. I got there in time to see Sonny Landreth and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Sonny Landreth - Louisiana flavored blues with great vocals, awesome finger-picking, and a neck-blistering bottleneck slide.

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - How do you describe these guys to someone that has never heard them live? How about a mix of jazz, country, rock, bluegrass, jam, funk, and classical combined into a fast paced romp that refuses to be classified. Yeah - Something like that.
