One day in early autumn I had lunch at Tom's Cap Winery, then drove along the Yarram-Blackwarry Road. This road is longer than Bulga Park Road (which is almost parallel to it) but more scenic and makes an enjoyable day trip.
Yarram-Blackwarry Road can be reached either from the C482 or from just north of Yarram, and runs uphill to the Grand Ridge Road (GRR). The road is mainly gravel but in good condition, and lined with tall gum trees, although some hillsides have been scarred by logging.
I was fortunate enough to see a kangaroo with a joey in her pouch beside the road.
At the top of the hill, beside the GRR, are dairy farms as well as bush. Several kilometres west I had afternoon tea at the Lyrebird Café in Balook before returning down the Yarram-Blackwarry Road but this time following it to Yarram through farming country.
