Photos of my car journey from Trincomalee -- via Batticaloa -- to Tissamaharama and Yala National Park.
A feature of the road was tropical scenery with the occasional war-damaged house but more commonly brightly coloured, prosperous houses, half hidden by vegetation, and colourful fruit stalls.
At one small town, I noticed a higher than usual concentration of women and girls in bright saris and stopped the car, to find a wedding (or possibly a festival) in progress at a Hindu temple.
For lunch, I went to a Muslim café in Batticaloa, where a gentleman in green, the colour of Islam, arrived just as I was leaving. His garb made a glorious picture by contrast with the relatively drab surroundings.
By late afternoon we arrived at Tissa, and the next day I visted Yala National Park.
