Trincomalee

After an all-day drive from Jaffna, I stopped overnight at Trincomalee, where I stayed at the Welcombe Hotel, a remarkable edifice with striking architecture, strong colours and stunning views from its hillside position. Next day I visited Fort Frederick and Kandasamy Kovil, a Hindu temple on a rocky perch high above the sea.
From Trinco I continued to drive south to Batticaloa.
