Bridge of Carr.jpg

Carrbridge, Inverness-shire, Scotland.

Built in 1717 by John Nicholson to carry coffins across the river Dulnain. The river is very prone to sudden spates(Floods) and many funerals were postponed so the bridge was built. The parapets were washed away during a "Great" Flood. See Sluggan bridge which is further upstream. The original was built by General Wade but was of two arches and a flood washed away the middle support and this "new" one was built to carry the military road to subdue the Highland Clans after the battle of Cullodden.
