(33) Joes NVWH (photo and narrative by Rex)

Joe's latest creation, a New Vertical Wheel Melter, is shown in use. The Porter burner in the lower right with the glowing red nozzle has already heated a web of the wheel to crumbling, and the wheel web that Joe is grabbing with tongs is "hot short", a stage where the metal crumbles and sweats, but hasn't quite melted. The pieces are broken off and dropped in a metal bucket or taken to the main furnace for melting. The drum holding the wheel is the bottom of a 100 gallon solar hot water storage tank held on it's side in an enclosure made of the drastically reshaped sheet metal that once enclosed it. Joe is a genius at re-purposing metal tanks, which we appreciate in his sand fluffer (not shown) and carver muller (shown in another picture)
