(32) The Casting Tent again, also with narrative by Rex

Here is a young man that really likes the tilted white carver muller that is in front of him. He shovels the used sand into the muller, and then turns it off and lets it fall out the trap door after re-conditioning is done. He was entranced by the machine last year, and returned this year and persistently asked us to let him to mix the sand. The old cement mixer in the background has 6 rectangular aluminum blocks that tumble in the drum to break up the harder dry clumps of foundry sand and clay that were baked hard by the heat of the molten metal when casting. Re-conditioning the sand is the biggest part of our job at GEARS. We try to make the participants do the ramming and molding so they can enjoy how easy it is. The kids and ladies participating outnumber the men some years, so it must be fun!
