Lanius ludovicianus
Loggerhead Shrikes are predatory birds that use their hooked bills to kill insects (mainly grasshoppers and beetles), small mammals, birds etc. They then impale the prey on thorns or barbed wire which earned them the nickname 'butcher bird'. They are endangered in NYS.
