Crab!

This one really is just for you LeeAnn!

What would a Christmas Island photo collection be without a CRAB! Our little - no, big - buddies were everywhere. Two times at night one snuck into my bathroom. I could hear him clattering around in the shower before I woke up. The next morning he was fiercely guarding my toilet. At 5:30 in the morning, when you really have to go to the bathroom, the last thing you want to encounter is a mad crab. After two nights of this I found how he was climbing through the screen, and we sewed it up with some tippet material. When he discovered my handiwork sometime the next night, I bet he was mad again.

The best crab story, however, goes to DeGraaf and Jim. One afternoon, DeGraaf took one of the crabs and put it on Jim's bed between the two pillows, like a crab sandwich. He came over to our cabin with a particularly evil grin on his face and told Paul: "You should see the present I just left for your 'Uncle Jim'". It stayed there until Jim put his tired head down that night, although we didn't hear anything about it at the time. The next morning at breakfast, Jim told us he put his head on the pillow that night and felt something "a little crunchy". He lifted up the pillow and said "Here was this crab, just making a nest between my pillows!". We all burst out with this collective BBBWWWAAAAHHAAAHAAAA!!! I think we all laughed for 5 straight minutes! It was a good thing we weren't drinking anything at the time.
